Makenna | 2020 Pewamo Westphalia Senior

I met up with Makenna to do her senior pictures on the most beautiful Michigan day! We met in Portland which is always so gorgeous and found some perfect locations. Here are a few of my favorites from her session plus a little bit more about Makenna!

RP: What are your plans after high school?

Makenna: My plans after high school are to go to college and get a bachelor degree, then hopefully attend medical school! My goal is to one day become a pediatrician. I have always loved children, been interested in the medical field, and enjoyed caring for others:)

RP: What is one of your favorite memories from high school so far?

Makenna: One of my favorite memories of high school so far was winning districts in volleyball my junior season. Volleyball is my favorite sport and I always have so much fun playing. Next season I am going to miss the seniors that graduated this year, but I am looking forward to hopefully another successful season!

RP: What is one of your favorite quotes? Why?

Makenna: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us" Ephesians 3:20. This is one of my favorite quotes because it reminds me how with God everything is possible, and his plan for my life is better than anything I could imagine.

Sydney | Class of 2020

I am so excited to get the senior picture season started this year! I have so many great senior representatives and Sydney is one of them!

We met up on Memorial Day Weekend at MSU Gardens to get Sydney’s senior pictures completed. Since winter stuck around a little too long this year, there was not a lot of color at the gardens yet but we still managed to find some.

Here are a few of my favorites from Sydney’s session along with a little more about her!

RP: What is your favorite thing about High School?

Sydney: “My favorite thing about high school was learning the countries of the world!  After learning the countries, I went on to learn the capitals and the flags.  Geography is something I am looking into for my college studies for next year.”

RP: What is your favorite past-time?

Sydney: “My favorite past time is going to concerts!  I love live music and try to get out to at least one concert a year.”

Sydney: “The best parts about getting my senior pictures taken was how comfortable and fun Danielle made it.  The gardens were beautiful and I loved seeing a few of the shots right after they were taken!”

Prom 2019

Anthony and Graycee were excited to meet up with me before their prom to get some unique photos! The exciting part is that no one will have prom photos quite like these this year!

We got right to work because we didn’t want Graycee to get too cold and because we wanted to get them on their way to their big night. In just over an hour of time, Anthony and Graycee are getting over 80 professional photos! Here are just a few of my favorites from my time with them.

What is a Senior Rep?

A senior rep is someone in the upcoming/current graduating class that simply tells their friends about their great experience with Reflections Photography. Because they share their experience, Reflections Photography pays them cash and gives them benefits as well as discounted senior portraits!

-$10 cash for each referral*

All for a special discount that is only unlocked for a few people!

 

Application deadline for senior representatives is February 1st. Senior reps will be in place by March 1st. Each school is limited to two representatives, which will be filled as applications are submitted, therefore, the sooner you apply, the better! All prospective representatives should fill out and submit their interest before February 1st by clicking here and scrolling to the bottom of the page. After submission, candidates will receive further details about the program.

 

*In order to get referral credits, the rep referral must have marketing material from the rep or mention them specifically while booking and complete at a minimum, a standard session. Mini Sessions or studio specials do not count as referral credits. Once the session is completed the rep will receive their cash rewards!

Dylan | Class of 2019

Dylan and I had to reschedule his session due to rain and I am glad we did because we were rewarded with the perfect fall day to get his senior pictures completed! Here are a few of my favorites from his senior session!

Ashley | Class of 2019

Ashley and I had to work through a rainy October weekend in order to get her senior pictures completed, but our patience paid off and we were rewarded with the perfect weather for photography!

Ashley’s primary goal during her photo session was to get a photo with a tree that had changed to vivid colors for fall. It is amazing to think, but Portland doesn’t have many large trees that have changed yet! We did our best and found a few small trees that did the trick though.

We stopped at some lovely areas with tall grasses that always make for great pictures so that Ashley could get the variety that people crave for their senior pictures.

She absolutely nailed the candid part of her senior session though! While I snapped away, Ashley’s dog, Spot, and her mom kept her busy and laughing which didn’t bother me at all because candids are my absolute favorite!

Grace | Class of 2019

I met up with Grace on a gorgeous fall day in Michigan! We planned an afternoon session while the sun was out bright and that certainly helped us stay warm! It is the time of year in Michigan where we are transitioning to fall but the leaves are not at their peak color yet so we had to get creative with locations for Grace’s photos! Here are a few of my favorites along with a little more about Grace!

RP: What is your favorite movie?

Grace: There is too many to narrow it down! I like anything from 16 Candles to Forrest Gump to The Hangover. It really just depends on my mood!

RP: You mentioned wanting to study psychology because you find the mind fascinating. What part of this excites you the most?

Grace: I’m really excited to start understanding the mind - why we think the way we do and what makes us think that way.

RP: What are you most excited about during your senior year?

Grace: This year I’m really looking forward to having one last hoorah with all of my classmates. It’s crazy to think that this is the last year we will all be together, so I want to have as much fun with them as I can, and I’m excited to make some memories with everyone before we all go our separate ways.

Whitney | Class of 2019

I met up with Whitney on a perfect fall day! At the time we met, the sun was headed down but this gave us perfect lighting for her entire session! The entire session was lit up by Whitney’s laughter too, she has one of those laughs that is truly infectious, everyone was having a great time. Here is a little more about Whitney and a few of my favorites from her session!

RP: You wear your dads ring around your neck all of the time, what is the story behind it?

Whitney: Technically he was my stepdad but he was the one that took care of me for over two years. He ended up complaining of headaches everyday until he went to the doctor and they found a cancerous tumor in his brain. He had surgery the very next morning. They couldn’t get it all and it ended up being stage four glioblastoma. The doctors said that it would get better and it did for a week or two but then it took a turn for the worst. My mom did all of the home care and it took a real toll on her along with the whole family. He lived 4 months after that and died March 30th of 2015. He wanted his ring that he wore the most to come with me and the other go to one of my other sisters. I lost my best friend.

RP: I photographed your best friend, Sammi, last week. What is your favorite thing about her?

Whitney: My favorite thing about Sammi would be that she will do anything for the people she loves. She helped me through losing my dad since she lost hers much sooner. She’s seen all the worst sides of me and still decides to stay by my side.

RP: What is the hardest thing that you have ever had to work through? What did you learn from it?

Whitney: The hardest thing I have had to work through is letting someone go that has just turned into someone else. Whether it be friends or family. You learn that just because someone is blood doesn’t mean they are family. I’ve met much better people to help me go through life.

Brendon | Class of 2019

I met Brendon on a blustery October day in Grand Ledge. We got right to work getting some great images so that he could quickly get out of the cold! We found some great locations for photos and did our best to stay warm. Here is a little more about Brendon and some of my favorite photos from his session!

RP: You want to major in psychology, why?

Brendon: I’ve dealt with my own issues and over the course of high school I was able to overcome those. I felt is was good to go into something that not only I had experience with but it’s something that I love. I want to help people that have went through the same things.

RP: You are self-taught on the guitar. How long did it take you? What is your favorite song to play?

Brendon: I’m still in the process of learning. I am currently trying to learn “XO” by Eden and “Breadcrumbs” by Jacob Lee because those are my favorite acoustic songs.

Brendon: I love writing music. As cliche as it sounds, I like to put my emotions into the music that I write.

Sammi | Class of 2019

Sammi spent a lot of time looking forward to her senior session and when it finally got here it was raining! Nothing could stop her though because rain or shine, she was going to enjoy her senior picture experience! I loved her attitude which shined through her pictures (and on such a gloomy day)! RP: I get to photograph your best friend, Whitney, next week. What is your favorite thing about her?

Sammi: My favorite this about Whitney would probably be her personality and opinions. She always makes me laugh and cares. She’s the one person that has been able to get me out of my comfort zone.

RP: you want to work with animals in your future career, what is it about animals that you love most?

Sammi: I love the fact that animals can be like one of your best friends and that they will always stick by your side when they know something is wrong. They are such cute and curious creatures.

RP: What is your most memorable moment in high school so far?

Sammi: My most memorable moment in high school so far is when my bowling team and I got first place in regionals. They are definitely a great, goofy bunch to travel with.

Jared | Class of 2019

I met up with Jared on another rainy Michigan weekend, but we caught a break in the rain and found some great spots for his senior pictures! We roamed around Bertha Brock Park looking for great spots but we also got lucky and found some hints of fall too! It is still early in the season, but Jared got lucky and got some color on the trees for his session! Here are a few of my favorites from Jared’s session along with a little more about him!

Jared: I have played 2 years and I like offense.

Andy | Class of 2019

Andy had to wait out some rain for his senior session and I am so glad that he did! We were rewarded with great weather! When the rain stopped and I got to his family farm, I took a look around and knew that I would love this location. Andy has worked on his families farm his entire life so this was the perfect spot to capture his senior photos. I could tell that this is right where we belonged for his session. Here is a little more about Andy along with a few of my favorites from his session.

RP: What is the hardest part about working on the farm?

Andy: The hardest part about working on the farm is working around weather conditions and timing your planting/ harvest around the weather conditions.

RP: What is something that you enjoy most about the farm?

Andy: I enjoy working on all the machines, fixing broken equipment and running the equipment especially during harvest because it is my favorite time of the year.

Andy: A quote I try to live by is “anything is possible if you set your mind to it” because any dream you have to pursue doesn’t wait, if you really want something you must work hard, set your mind to it and you can accomplish it!!

David | Class of 2019

I met up with David on the warmest October day yet! It was a nice change to get almost 80 degrees after dealing with 50’s in the past week and it was even better that David got the perfect day for photos!

I loved getting to know David and his family while we went to some of his favorite Portland spots. Here are a few of my favorite photos, along with a little more about David.

RP: Who is someone that you look up to, why?

David: I look up to my parent as my biggest motivation. They were able to immigrate to the United States and work hard to give me a better platform for my future and I am going to take advantage of it to succeed in life.

RP: What do you love most about Portland?

David: I love the community of Portland. From the beautiful rivers and river trails to our small population, we are a city filled with joy and friendliness. There’s no worrying about safety in Portland but rather remembering the names of all the people you meet when you take a trip through the town. The uniqueness of Portland has shaped me to who I am and I am thankful for that.

RP: What is your favorite food, why?

David: Despite our differences in religion, culture, or gender, the one thing everyone in Portland can agree on is the sensational ranch dressing of the Wagon Wheel. Out of the whole state of Michigan you can’t find ranch better than theirs. It is among one of the most valuable things that Portland has and my passion for it will carry with me even onto college.

Gavin | Class of 2019

Gavin traveled to Portland for his senior pictures even though he is a Grand Ledge Senior. He must know how beautiful Portland is! Gavin is a tough one to crack with the smiles though, so I got right to work getting to know him and getting a few genuine smiles along the way. Here is a little more about Gavin and a few of my favorites from his session!

RP: You like to fix things, what is something that you’ve fixed that you’re most proud of?

Gavin: I put a transfer case in a truck which took a couple of days.

RP: Where is your favorite restaurant? Why? What do you like to eat there?

Gavin: Cheddars, because I like the fish tanks and I like their country fried steak!

RP: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you make sure you had with you? Why?

Gavin: I would bring food, tools and boardgames. Food to eat when im hungry. Tools to fix anything that may wash up. Boardgames to play when I get bored and need entertainment.

Anthony | Class of 2019

I met Anthony on a beautiful afternoon, the sun was high in the sky but it wasn’t too hot or too cold, a perfect day for senior photos! We got right to work on the Raider soccer field where Anthony is a goalie. From there, we moved to various spots around Portland to get some more great senior pictures for him. RP: What was the best play you made during soccer?

Anthony: Junior year while in goal playing against Waverly, I made a huge diving save that was chipped over me to the other end of the ent. I barely got to it with my fingertips and sent it out!

RP: When you’re not playing soccer, what is your favorite thing to do?

Anthony: I like to play a lot of video games and going out with friends.

RP: If you were given 100k what would you do with it?

Anthony: I would use some for college and a new car then save the rest for future investments.

Bobby | Class of 2019

Bobby chose the most perfect day for his senior photos. We met in the evening time while the sun was headed down which ended up providing perfect light for some of his shots! We got right to work getting photos and got to know each other along the way. He and I are a little bit of kindred spirits because this kid genuinely loves to smile (and I do too)! RP: What was the best play that you’ve ever made in football?

Bobby: The best play I have ever made was when I sacked Lansing Catholics Quarterback in the end zone for a safety.

Bobby: I believe I stand out from the crowd because I work harder than most people and I find passion in everything I do.

Bobby: The funniest thing that has happened to me recently would have to be falling down my steps one night and then trying to play it off to my parents that I was chasing the cat.

Mariah | Class of 2019

I was so excited when Mariah’s family contacted me to do her senior portraits. I have known her family for many years while I was growing up and she was one of the only ones left for me to meet! It is always such a great feeling when families grow and welcome me into these special moments (like senior year)! Regardless, Mariah and I got right to work with getting some great pictures for her milestone! Here are a few of my favorites along with a little more about Mariah!

RP: You’re pretty great at soccer, how did you get so good?

Mariah: I played recreation soccer since I was in kindergarten and club soccer ever since I was in 6th grade. My dad and I play soccer on our own to better my skills. Simply hard Work and dedication got me to where I am. My parents, teammates, and coaches have pushed me to be the best I can be as well.

RP: What is your favorite pastime when you’re not playing soccer?

Mariah: I like to joke around most of the time. I like to hang out with family and do any sort of physical activity. I also enjoy reading a good book once in a while.

Mariah: I like dystopian novels (Divergent, Hunger Games, The Giver) because of the impact that one person can have on society.

Aubrey | Class of 2019

Aubrey met up with me on a Sunday evening to get her senior pictures taken. I always recommend starting in the evening time for pictures because the lighting outside is so much better, on this day though, we were dealing with impending storms. We hurried through her session before the dark and rain came and only got sprinkled on a little bit! I am so glad we held out for her session because we truly captured some amazing images!

RP: You mentioned being interested in the medical field, what are you considering?

Aubrey: I have been debating between a PA for a dermatologist or going into psychology because in both I will be able to help people and I have always wanted to do that. With the PA, I find the pimple popping videos online really cool and interesting to watch, but with Psychology I would be able to help people with issues they are facing in life and understand why it's happening. That stuff has been interesting to think about and learn about.

RP: What is your favorite memory from cheer?

Aubrey: My favorite memory from cheer was freshman year when we found out we made it to regionals. That has been the only time so far that I've been on a team that's made it to regionals and to have it be my first year was super cool. I have a lot of girls from that team I miss cheering with.

RP: What is your favorite quote and why?

Aubrey: “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.” and “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken” - Oscar Wilde

These are two of my favorite quotes, I've seen a lot and they have always stuck out to me because they are motivation to me and I can connect them back to my personal life

Corey | Class of 2019

This Labor Day weekend was a fun one spent with Corey getting her senior pictures completed! It was a warm, humid and rainy weekend for Michigan, but we dodged the rain and dealt with the rest to get these great images of this pretty girl! Here are a few of my favorites!

Corey chose Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge, MI for her senior photos. She wanted to make sure to get plenty of nature for her portraits and this location fit that bill! I can't imagine you will find "The Ledges" in too many places!
