Newborn Photography - Portland, MI
Newborn sessions are always so sweet, and this one was no exception.
I met up with Emma and Calen to document the newest addition to their little family: Lila, a beautiful baby girl. They decided to do their session from the comfort of their own home, with featured locations being their living room and Lila’s nursery. I love when families choose this for their newborn sessions because it gives that real life, lived-in feel and reflects the scenery most familiar to your baby in their first few months of life. Plus, families can travel light because they don’t have to travel at all! No baby gear to lug along, no car seat to mess with, no bottles to prepare, no spare outfits to pack - it’s all right there. Let me make things as easy as possible by coming to you.
What made this session especially precious was the method Calen used to soothe his daughter. They informed me that noise calms Lila down, so when she got a little fussy during their shoot, he grabbed his phone and pulled up, of all things, a sporting event! It worked like a charm as she settled immediately.
Emma left a kind comment about their session and the pictures:
“We love them!! Thanks for capturing our family and being so patient & flexible ♥️”
Another part of this shoot that made it so special was the inclusion of the Mann’s dog. I always love when families bring their pets along for photos, but it’s especially adorable with newborn photography. The bond between Lila and her guard dog is unmatched, and you can see the relationship they have so quickly formed come to life in their gallery. He was very alert every time she fussed, and is slowly but surely becoming used to the idea of sharing mom and dad’s attention with his new best friend.
Babies have their own timing and therefore encourage us all to be fluid with our schedules. We had booked this session months before Lila entered the world. As they were approaching Emma’s due date, I began checking in periodically, and when she went past Lila’s anticipated arrival, we pushed their session back as well. Some things don’t always go to plan, and that’s okay. I’m always willing to work with you to form another option if necessary.
I had a great time with the Manns and appreciate them choosing me to help preserve these cherishable memories for them. If you’re in the maternity or newborn phase of life and looking to do the same, head to my website to book a session today!
