Our 2025 began photographing a beautiful wedding and we are thinking that this is the absolute best way to begin a new year!
KC and Budd contacted us at the end of 2024 because they were in the midst of planning a small elopement in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. KC explained that her family was going to be visiting Michigan from Florida and she wanted to make sure that they were included in their day. Because of this, a Michigan winter wedding was in store for them and a more intimate wedding was the perfect option.
As our conversations went on, we helped KC explore location options for their formal photos. Capturing these was the most important to her and she didn’t really want all the photos to take place at their church. After a couple of weeks of thinking on it, KC settled on scheduling some time at Frederick Meijer Gardens for their pre-ceremony formal portraits. All of us knew that this was the best decision for what she was looking for in her day and we were so excited to capture it for her at such a lovely venue!
Fred Meijer Gardens is such a gorgeous place. Since it is winter, we chose to stay inside for KC and Budd’s photos to take advantage of all the greenery and warmth.
Budd was quite warm in his suit, but everyone else was perfectly comfortable! I mean, just look at everyones smiles in the family including how KC’s mom looks at her beautiful daughter.
After getting family photos, KC wanted to focus on more photos of just her and Budd. There are so many lovely spots at Fred Meijer gardens which gives us so many options for her to get photos of all kinds to remember their special day.
We spent a good amount of time at Fred Meijer capturing KC and Budd along with their families. It was so special seeing everyone show up for them and meet all the people close to them. We got some amazing photos at this venue and could’ve photographed them all day there but we had to go get them married at their church! We all hopped in our vehicles and headed a short 20 minutes away to Cornerstone Church in Caledonia.
Cornerstone Church was so accommodating to us! After we arrived, guests starting arriving very quickly after and welcomed by the Bride and Groom. Since this was a more intimate wedding, KC and Budd were able to give a good welcome to everyone that walked through the doors of the church.
KC and Budd got married in the lobby of the church which was so nice for an intimate elopement like theirs. Their family and friends got to sit in cozy chairs while KC and Budd got married. As KC had always wanted, this was a very small, informal occasion where closest friends and family could be with them as they made their vows to one another.
One of the best parts of weddings is seeing the people in the family. This is KC’s daughter who just needed to see a little better!
After the ceremony while all the guests visited, KC and Budd embraced numerous times. We enjoyed seeing them share their love for one another in small ways throughout the entire day.
Once the ceremony was completed, I noticed the light snow that was falling outside. I asked KC and Budd if they would mind taking one last photo before we parted ways. We sneaked out the backdoor of the church and it was the perfect way to complete the day.
Congratulations to KC and Budd on their marriage. We know they will have a beautiful life together creating memories and laughter. We are so thankful to have been invited to capture the beginning of this beautiful journey!

How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer
Your wedding photos will be some of the most cherished memories you have of your big day, so choosing the right photographer is a decision that deserves thoughtful consideration. With so many photographers in the greater Lansing, Michigan area offering unique styles and packages, the process can seem overwhelming. Here’s a guide to help you find the perfect photographer to capture your special day.
1. Identify Your Style
Before starting your search, spend some time exploring different photography styles. Do you prefer candid, documentary-style shots, or are you drawn to dramatic, vibrant photos? Maybe you love the soft, romantic look of film photography or prefer bold, vibrant colors. Knowing your style helps narrow down your choices and ensures you find someone who can bring your vision to life.
2. Set a Realistic Budget
Photography is one area of your wedding where it pays to invest. Set a budget that reflects your priorities, but remember that wedding photography is an investment. It’s not just about paying for someone to snap photos; you’re paying for their time, talent, editing, and the ability to capture once-in-a-lifetime moments beautifully.
3. Read Reviews and Testimonials
Reviews can give you valuable insights into others experiences. Look for photographers who have received positive feedback not just for their photography skills but for their professionalism, communication, and ability to make people feel comfortable.
4. Meet in Person or Set Up a Video Call
Chemistry with your photographer matters. They’ll be by your side on one of the most emotional days of your life, so it’s essential to feel comfortable with them. An in-person or video call consultation can help you get a feel for their personality, communication style, and how well you connect.
5. Discuss Packages and Deliverables
Every photographer offers different packages, so discuss what’s included, such as engagement sessions, hours of coverage, and the number of edited images. Understanding what’s included will help you compare packages and avoid surprises later on.
7. Ask About Their Backup Plan
No one wants to think about things going wrong on their wedding day, but it’s important to know your photographer has a backup plan. Ask how they handle unexpected situations, like equipment failure or an emergency that prevents them from attending. Experienced photographers will have contingency plans in place for peace of mind.
8. Look for a Contract with Clear Terms
A professional photographer will provide a detailed contract outlining deliverables, payment terms, cancellation policies, and timelines for photo delivery. Carefully review this document and ask questions to ensure both parties understand and agree on the terms.
9. Trust Your Instincts
When all is said and done, trust your instincts. If you feel a strong connection to a photographer’s work, and they make you feel at ease, that’s a good sign you’ve found the right fit. Go with your gut, especially if they meet all your other criteria.
10. Book Early!
Great photographers book up fast, especially for popular wedding dates. Once you’ve found someone you connect with, don’t wait too long to secure your date. This will give you peace of mind and allow you to focus on other parts of the planning process.
Final Thoughts
Choosing your Michigan wedding photographer is about more than finding someone with a camera—it’s about finding someone who can capture the emotions, details, and moments that make your day unique. With these tips, you’ll be able to find the photographer who best aligns with your style, vision, and personality. Here’s to creating beautiful memories that will last a lifetime!
