Kristina + Alec | Portland, MI Wedding

Some wedding days start quietly… and some start with a tent trying to take flight.

Alec and Kristina’s day definitely chose the second option.

As I arrived, Kristina was tucked away in a little tent at Community Lake park in Portland, MI. She was hidden from Alec, hair done, dress perfect, when a sudden gust of wind grabbed the entire tent and flipped it. Just imagine the chaos. Quick thinking guests sprinting in dress shoes, and doing everything they could to keep the bride hidden. And somehow… they pulled it off. Alec never saw a thing.

I finished putting my photo gear in place and met up with Kristina who was adding her final touches. Only her maid of honor had seen her, so the excitement in the tent was real. She did a first look with her dad, one of those moments that makes you smile behind the camera, and then surprised her bridesmaids with lots of compliments from everyone.

The Walk to “I Do”

Guests settled in as the wedding party made their way down the aisle. Alec stood at the front, trying to look composed but absolutely glowing with anticipation. And then Kristina appeared with her dad. The second Alec saw her, he smiled in that way that says, “Yep. That’s my girl.”

The ceremony was officiated by a close friend, which made everything feel personal and warm. Alec and Kristina kept locking eyes, laughing softly with each other, and you could just tell, they’re the kind of couple who will always find joy together.

The Twirl Heard ’Round the Aisle

Kristina had told me she wanted to twirl on the way back up the aisle. And she absolutely did. Alec knew exactly how to catch her hand, and she spun with the biggest smile, showing off her gorgeous dress like she’d been waiting all day for that moment.

A Quiet Moment on the River Trail

After family and bridal party photos, a few of us slipped away to the Portland River Trail. Just sunshine, trees, and a little quiet away from the crowd. Alec and Kristina exchanged letters they had written to each other. They read them to one another in the sweetest way. It was one of those moments where the world slows down for a minute.

I always encourage couples to take time like this. Your wedding day moves fast. Having even ten minutes alone together is something you’ll never regret.

A Reception Full of Laughter

Back at the reception, guests were ready to celebrate. Dinner was delicious, the speeches were heartfelt, and their first dance, sung live by close friends, felt like something out of a movie. These two laughed through their entire day. Truly. Every moment.

And honestly, watching them, I have no doubt they’ll be laughing together for the rest of their lives.
